Noticed: Kristin Lora

By Regina Connell.

Santa Fe-based Kristin Lora‘s beguiling, offbeat designs belie the real mastery of her craft, which in this case, is metal-smithing. Kristin incorporates whimsical features into her work, like jokey combinations of miniature people or animals or brushes, combining all of these little objects with incredible attention to detail. She also makes more conservative (but still unique) work, like shadowbox necklaces, earrings, and rings incorporating gems, gold, and more.

But what really caught my eye was a pair of orange felt ball earrings. (They are part of an entire line of necklaces, bracelets, and earrings.) The piece de la resistance? The way the left and right earrings aren’t quite identical. Can you spot the difference? To sum up, they’re quirky, elegant, and self-assured. They just make me smile.
